Construction of a Physical Display of a Body Cubic Centered Crystalline Structure and Face Centered Crystalline Structure.

Body Cubic Centered Structure.

A body centered cubic structure can be defined as a type of crystal lattice, where the unit cell is in shape of the cube. With one atom at the center
of the unit cell.
Face centered cubic structure is a cube, with an atom at at each corner of the unit cell and atom situated in the middle of each face of the unit cell.

AIM/OBJECTIVES:

To physically represent a body cubic centered structure using table tennis balls and broom sticks.

MATERIALS:

Broom sticks (same length), tennis balls.

TOOLS:

Nail, and marker.

PROCEDURE:

  1. Draw the structure on a piece of paper.
  2. The broom sticks represent the lines.
  3. Mark points on the balls where holes will be made, to fit the broom sticks.
  4. Create holes on the points made on the balls.
  5. Insert the broom sticks one after the other, and set them in a cubic form.

SAME PROCEDURE CAN BE USED FOR FACE CENTERED.
